Boreal Origin
Subclass of: Sorcerer
Sorcerers of the Boreal Origin derive their magic not from lineage or heritage but from their profound connection with the mystical aurora or boreal lights. Known as Boreals, these sorcerers credit their abilities to Yul, the entity believed to have created these luminous phenomena. Their magic is strongest within the icy realms bathed in aurora lights, though they venture far to spread the legends of Yul. Boreals wield spells that mimic the beauty and power of the boreal lights, from creating bridges of light to casting enchantments that dazzle and control. With abilities that enhance their vision through the lights, thrive in the darkness, and even repel metal with their body's magnetic field, Boreals are a testament to the awe-inspiring power of the natural world. At the pinnacle of their power, they can embody the essence of the boreal lights, becoming luminous warriors of light with formidable defenses and the ability to sustain themselves on the ethereal glow of their celestial benefactor.
Some sorcerers are able to trace the powers in their blood back to a specific location, rather than something in their bloodline or heritage. Sorcerer’s of the Boreal Origin have gained magical powers from their extended exposure and close proximity to aurora or boreal lights. Boreals, as they call themselves, are often followers of Yul (the being they credit with creating the lights that grant them their power). They are normally found in the cold regions dominated by aurora or boreal lights since that’s where their powers are most amplified. However they’ve been known to wander far and wide to spread the tales of Yul around the world.

Eyes in the Sky
Starting at 1st level, you gain the ability to project your vision into a boreal light created with the boreal light spell. After casting boreal light, you can enter a trance lasting 1 minute, during which time your vision is projected from the boreal light. You are able to see things at normal distances, however your vision can originate from any point within the boreal light. For the duration, you lose the ability to see through your own eyes but can still hear what is going on around your body. You can end the trance as a bonus action.
Once you have used this feature, you cannot use it again until after a short rest.
Nocturnal Adapt
Beginning at 6th level, you have become more accustomed to the night, and you shine better as a light in the darkness. Your spell attack bonus and spell save DC’s increase by 1 from sunset to sunrise. By 14th level, your mastery of the night increases your spell save DC’s by an additional +1.
Magnetic Resonance
Beginning at 14th level, your exposure to the boreal lights has begun to alter your physical form. Your body now generates a tangible magnetic field. As a bonus action, you are able to cause this magnetic field to surge for 1 minute, making metal slightly repel from you. Any melee or ranged attack made against you with a metal weapon is made at disadvantage for this duration. Once you have used this feature twice, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
Boreal Knight
At 18th level, your connection with the boreal lights has become perfectly attuned. As an action, you are able to call down the lights, wrapping yourself in them. Your body begins to glow with bright light out to 60 feet and dim light for another 30 feet, and you gain one of the following benefits for 1 minute:
The lights surrounding your body become a tangible armor of solid light. You gain a +4 to your AC.
The lights surrounding you fill you with nourishment, granting you 25 temporary hit points. You also no longer require air to breathe.
The lights around you begin to pulse defensively when you’re under attack. All melee attacks and any spell cast against you that require sight are made at disadvantage.
Once you have used this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
